December in Birmingham

It is hard to believe that 2018 is coming to an end, and while we can look eagerly ahead to a new year, there’s still plenty of fun to be had this December. From Christmas events to New Year’s Eve parties, have a look at what’s up in the Magic City:

Birmingham Zoo lights up Friday for annual ZooLight Safari with new attractionsBring the family to the Birmingham Zoo after sunset for the Zoolight Safari. While the animals rest for the night, the zoo will be illuminated with twinkling lights. You will be captivated by the festive décor and a nearly 30 ft. tall tree of lights. Dance and sing the night away under the stars with spectacular live entertainment. Make sure to grab your picture with Santa at one of the photo booths. Admission is $10 for non zoo members and zoo members have free admission.

You can also enjoy an incredible Christmas light display from the warmth of your own car. At the Birmingham Race Course, Shadrack’s Christmas Wonderland features over three miles of glowing displays, all synchronized to music you can tune into via your car’s radio. Be sure to look for the all-new SANTA’S MOUNTAIN theme features custom built, giant, all-led displays! The lights are up through January 6,2019. Discounted tickets are available at these Piggly Wiggly stores.

Image result for alabama theater christmasAlabama Theatre will host several Christmas movies leading up to December 22. The gorgeous theatre will screen a classic seasonal special like Charlie Brown and the Grinch. They will also be showing Polar Express and Elf. They will screen some old time favorites such as Its a Wonderful Life and White Christmas. 

If you’re looking for music, Anderson East with SUSTO and The Brummies will perform at Alabama Theatre on New Year’s Eve.

At Railroad Park, you can lace up and ice skate in the middle of one of downtown Birmingham’s most scenic outdoor spaces. The rink is open through January 6, 2019. Take a spin on the ice with the Birmingham cityscape as the backdrop. Admission is $12 for adults and $10 for children 12 years and under.

The night separates the old year from the new is filled with celebrations across the city. With a selection of fine restaurants and venues in historic landmarks, Birmingham’s Loft District is a great place to ring in the New Year. Roots & Revelry’s 2nd annual New Year’s Eve event will once again take over the entire 2nd floor of downtown’s historic Thomas Jefferson Tower!
